Swine Flu H1-N1 Information
Over the past several weeks there has been a lot of information regarding the Swine Flu, most of it very concerning. While there is a need to be concerned, there is no reason to panic. We do expect that we will see more cases and more hospitalizations over the coming days and weeks. As of the writing of this note there is no vaccine for this type of Swine Flu (H1-N1) there is however medications that are effective and can shorten the life of this influenza. These medications are most effective when taken within two days of the onset of symptoms. The symptoms for this influenza are available on the websites listed below.
You have a role in protecting yourself and your family.
Take these steps everyday to protect your health:
•Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
•Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
•Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
•Do not go to work or school if you are sick. The Center for Disease Control recommends that you limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
•Follow public health advice regarding school closures or avoiding crowds as much as possible.
While these steps seem almost too easy and mostly common sense, the most effective measures usually are.
