Bolingbrook Law Enforcement Explorer Program
Youths need solid information on the adult world they are preparing to enter. Today's teenagers have a chance to find out firsthand about a wide variety of careers of special interest - Law Enforcement is one.
The Bolingbrook Police Department's Law Enforcement Explorer Program has been carefully designed to meet the needs and desires of young men and women, ages 14 through 21, who are interested in law enforcement. The program provides young adults with opportunities to receive training in law enforcement methods and to assist law enforcement personnel in their work. However, explorers are not allowed to substitute for law enforcement personnel, and they are forbidden from representing themselves as police officers.
The Explorer Program, in addition to exploring special interests, serves many other purposes:
To explore all phases of law enforcement, giving the explorers an insight into the many fields of law enforcement and information to help them qualify for a career in this field.
To help young adults find their own lifestyles through experiences that develop strong character, give citizenship training, and improve personal and mental fitness.
To instill within explorers a genuine wish to develop the habits, attitudes, and practices of contributing members of society.
Each member of the Law Enforcement Explorer Post is expected to have a team spirit - and be prepared by study, training, and discipline to meet the responsibilities of their post. Confidence, so essential for accomplishment, comes from successful experience gained through the diligent performance of duty. Courtesy, patience, and tact are characteristics of the experienced, competent Law Enforcement Explorer. To help guide post members live these ideals, explorers subscribe to a code of ethics.
The Law Enforcement Explorer Code of Ethics
As a Law Enforcement Explorer my fundamental duty is to respect the U.S. Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice.
I will lead a life based on morality and integrity; maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. I will be honest in thought and deed in both my personal and official life, and will obey the laws of the land and the regulations of the Law Enforcement Explorer Post.
