Safe Exchange Zone

Bolingbrook Police Chief, Mike Rompa, reminds residents that the Police Station at 375 W. Briarcliff Rd. can be used as a “Safe Exchange” Zones for on-line purchases.

While most transactions through websites like Craigslist and EBay are completely legitimate, their popularity makes them vulnerable to criminal activity from online predators.

The Police Station lobby is staffed 24-hours a day. In addition, the public parking lot is well-lit and monitored by a closed circuit camera surveillance system. Members of the public are invited to conduct transactions at our Police Station.

The Police Department suggests the following basic safety tips when meeting someone for an internet transaction:

  • Don’t make a transaction alone
  • Tell a third party you’re conducting a transaction
  • Meet in a public place, such as the Bolingbrook Police Department lobby or Police Station public parking lot (“Safe Exchange” Zones)
  • Don’t go to someone’s home or invite them to yours
  • Take cashier’s checks or money orders for the transaction, not cash
  • Conduct transaction during the daytime hours whenever possible
Bolingbrook is a very safe community, and we are happy to assist folks looking for added peace of mind & an additional measure of security.
